Rudyard Kipling Nursery

Welcome to the nursery

At Rudyard Kipling Primary School and Nursery, we are proud of our provision for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We have a wonderful Nursery consisting of ‘Little Cubs’, our 2 year old Nursery room, and ‘Akela’ our 3-4 year old Nursery class.

What you will see

We provide a nurturing, rich and stimulating learning environment where children can flourish as individuals and children’s independence and autonomy is promoted. We deliver a creative curriculum where every child is inspired to explore, investigate and learn through first-hand, hands-on experiences.

We are an I Can Early Talk accredited Nursery, an endorsement of our setting's dedication and ability to inspire and support the language and literacy skills of all our children.

We are a ‘Talk for Writing’ school and Nursery begins our children’s journey along this path with Talk for Mark Making. To find out more about Talk for Writing go to www.talk4writing.co.uk.

Our spacious and green outside learning garden offers exploration and learning on a larger scale using nature and natural resources. It highly supports the enrichment of communication and language and development of children’s understanding of their world through sensory experiences with a mud kitchen, planting beds for the growing of herbs and vegetables and planted areas of insect attracting fauna and minibeast habitats; including a ‘bug hotel’. In addition, Nursery has the use of the school’s amazing wildlife area.

Throughout Nursery, we value and appreciate working in close partnership with our families. In addition to our daily meet and great, we offer inspirational workshops and guidance to enable parents/carers to feel informed and involved in their children’s development and opportunities for children to proudly share and celebrate their learning with families.

Our children grow into happy, inquisitive, secure learners who are comfortable to share their thoughts, ‘have a go’ at new learning and seek a challenge. They develop key characteristics of learning that will support them throughout school and equip them for life.

‘Together, we help each other to achieve our best.’

Click here to see some of our Nursery children performing 'The Gingerbread Man'.      This is a good example of our 'Talk for Writing' approach.

Recording of children’s development

Throughout the Nursery, the recording of children’s progress is through ‘2 Simple’ observations (an online learning journey) emailed to your inbox, that captures milestones in each child’s development; it includes observations, photos and quotes from each child to inform their interests, achievements, next steps and characteristics of learning.

Each child also has a ‘Busy Bee Book’. The children put work into these that they feel particularly proud of. These wonderfully display how the children have progressed in their fine motor skills and expressive arts and design and children are delighted to stick in, for example, their ‘Wow’ certificates (for achievement at home awarded by parents and celebrated in Nursery) and Head teacher’s awards!

In addition, in the 2 year old room, compulsory (Government requirement) ‘Two Year Old Progress Checks’ are undertaken with input from both child’s key worker and parent/carers, within a few weeks of the children starting with us.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential.  How children start their lives and their education in early settings has a huge role to play in their futures and can impact on their chances and opportunities. Children need a safe and secure environment in which they are happy and are free to develop to their full abilities.
