Rainbow Flag Award

Committed to inclusivity

At Rudyard Kipling, we are committed to inclusivity and are proud to be working towards achieving the Rainbow Flag Award. This commitment reflects our dedication to being LGBT+ inclusive and enhancing the lives of all young people and their families.

We have already integrated positive language and an understanding of diverse identities into our classrooms. The aim of this has been to foster inclusive education and representation, and to combat LGBT-phobia. Our ultimate goal is to nurture children who are inclusive, ambitious in their language, and caring towards those who may need support.

What is the Rainbow Flag Award?

The Rainbow Flag Award is a quality assurance framework for primary and secondary schools. Schools carry out self-assessment, and get ongoing monitoring and feedback, to see how well they provide safe and supportive environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) students, across the whole school.

The Rainbow Flag Award is made up of several different accreditations. This school year we aim to achieve the following:

Skilled Teachers
Supportive Governors and Parents
Effective Policies
Inclusive Curriculum
Pastoral Support
Pupil Voice

Our achievements so far

We’re pleased to say that in May 2024, we were awarded the first level of the accreditation, Skilled Teacher. Then, in October 2024, we were awarded both the Effective Policies and Parents and Governers accreditations. We look forward to updating you on the further progress we make in coming months
